In a case of suspected suicide pact, a young woman along with her two daughters were burnt to death in their residence at Mavila Kadappuram near the coastal hamlet of Padanna, some six km from Cheruvathur on Sunday.

The charred bodies of Soumya, 27, and her daughters Yathunanda, 7, and Devananda, 4, were found inside the house around 3.30 p.m., police said.

No other persons were present in the house when the incident took place.

Soumya, wife of one Thekedath Chandran, suspected to have taken the extreme step after returning from Chandran’s house near Thrikaripur this afternoon.

Family discord is suspected to have driven the woman to set her and the children ablaze using kerosene, police said.

Senior police officials led by Neeleshwaram Circle Inspector of police U. Preman along with forensic experts have visited the spot as part of carrying out preliminary investigation.
