V.J. James wins Vayalar Ramavarma literary award

Carries a purse of ₹1 lakh, a citation and a silver statuette

Writer V.J. James has been selected for the 43rd Vayalar Ramavarma Memorial Literary Award for his novel Nireeshwaran (atheist).

The prestigious award, instituted by the Vayalar Ramavarma Memorial Trust in memory of the revered poet, carries a purse of ₹1 lakh, a citation and a silver statuette designed by noted sculptor Kanayi Kunhiraman.

The award recipient was selected by a jury that comprised A.K. Nambiar, Anil Kumar Vallathol and K.V. Mohan Kumar.

Ceremony on Oct. 27

The award will be presented at a ceremony that will be organised at the Nishagandhi auditorium on October 27 on the occasion of the death anniversary of Vayalar Ramavarma, Trust president Perumpadavam Sreedharan, who assumed the position earlier in the day under controversial circumstances, said at a press conference here on Saturday.
