Organisations of gazetted officers to stage protest in capital

Since June 1, the State government is functioning with many key posts lying vacant.

Though schools have reopened, 300 posts of headmasters in government schools are vacant. Service organisations of gazetted officers have registered their strong protest against the situation.

They will hold dharnas in front of the Treasury Directorate in Thiruvananthapuram on June 12 and in front of the Panchayat Directorate on June 15 and 16.

Sources said some of the top posts lying vacant were those of the Director of Treasuries, Director of Public Instruction (DPI), Director of Medical Education, Director of Animal Husbandry Department (AHD), two posts of Additional DPI, and Joint Commissioner of the Commercial Taxes Department (CTD).

Other important posts lying unfilled included those of eight joint directors, 16 deputy directors, 22 assistant directors, and 37 veterinary surgeons in the AHD; six deputy commissioners, 25 assistant commissioners, and 35 commercial taxes officers in the CTD.

Education officers

In the Education Department, 57 of 165 posts of assistant education officers were lying vacant. In the same department, 15 district education officers’ posts were also vacant.

The secretary posts in 200 panchayats were lying vacant.

In the Treasury Department, 14 of 24 posts of district treasury officers (DTO) were vacant. The posts of seven assistant DTOs and 38 of 197 sub-treasury officers were unfilled.

A good number of engineers’ posts in the Public Works Department and the Local Self-government Department were also lying vacant.

The sources said an exact figure was not available.
