The hartal called by the United Democratic Front on Monday was near total in the district. Sporadic incidents of violence were reported from different parts of the district.
The police caned hartal supporters at Mundur when they tried to stop a KSRTC bus. The Congress activists injured in the incident were hospitalised. The police have registered cases against 50 people.
UDF activists blocked a KSRTC bus at Swaraj Round. Tension prevailed as the police tried to arrest the agitators. They were arrested and removed later. Hartal supporters took out protest marches at various places.
