The Forest Department and the State Forest development agency have jointly launched a social survey inside the tribal settlements in the forest.

The survey has been meant to get the details of the total population of tribal people and the number of families, detail of their cattle population, and information on the cultivation of crops.

It has collected details of the benefits they received under the Forest Rights Act.

An official of the Forest Department on Saturday said the survey has been meant for collecting information on whether the people at the grassroots received the benefits given to them by various departments.

Improvement on the social front is also judged in the survey. It is in the final stage at the 11 tribal settlements in the Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary.

There are seven Muthuvan settlements and four settlements of Malapulayas inside the sanctuary.
