The hartal called by BJP in Guruvayur and Manalur Assembly constituencies to protest against the murder of a RSS worker is total.
Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code were imposed at three police station limits — Pavaratty, Guruvayur and Guruvayur temple station — considering tense situation prevailing in the area.
A three-member gang hacked RSS activist Anandan (28) to death near Balarama Temple, Nenmini, on Sunday afternoon. Anandan was second accused in the murder of DYFI leader Fazil in 2013. He was released on bail later.
Condemning the murder, BJP leader K. Surendran alleged CPI(M)–SDPI nexus behind the murder.
“Police’s inefficiency led to the murder. The special branch had given hints on possible attack against Anandan. But police failed to give sufficient protection,” he said.
The BJP/RSS workers, who were protesting the murder on Sunday evening, attacked police vehicle. Three police officers suffered minor injuries. The posters and hoardings of CPI(M) were widely damaged by the protesters.
Hunt for attackers
Meanwhile, the police are looking for the three-member gang who attacked Anandan. Attackers came in the car belonged to Fazil’s brother, according to police. They recovered a mobile phone from the car used by the gang.
The gang escaped from the crime spot in a bike snatched from a youth who came in that way as the tyre of their car burst in the impact of collision.
