June 21, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:38 am IST - KASARAGOD:

Public Works Minister V.K. Ebrahim Kunju on Saturday inaugurated bridges and a road network with an outlay of Rs.37.11 crore in the Manjeswaram, Kasaragod and Uduma constituencies in the district.

The facilities opened are the Rs.2.25-crore Beejandadkka-Adimbayi-Manya link road, Rs.4.70-crore Kottoor-Ottachal-Payarpallam road, Rs.6.6-crore Mangalpady-Badoor road, Rs.1.30-crore Pookkatta-Bayikkatta road, Rs.14.41-crore Athanady bridge, and Rs.7.87-crore Honibagilu bridge, near Manjeswaram.

While declaring open the Honibagilu bridge, the Minister said that urgent steps would be taken to construct the approach roads to the bridge once land was made available. The Minister’s assurance came amid widespread resentment over the hasty inauguration of the bridge without laying the approach road.

A section of the people termed the bridge inauguration a ploy to hoodwink the public eyeing on the upcoming local body elections. Mr. Kunju said that his ministry was moving forward with a comprehensive plan to complete the work of 100 bridges in a span of one year.
