Rain destroys crops, houses in Wayanad

Widespread damage to crops and property was reported in the heavy rain and wind that lashed the district on Friday and Saturday.

Normal life was hit after the low-lying areas were inundated in the torrential rain. Traffic between Mananthavady-Tholpetty and Muthireri-Mananthavady was disrupted for a few hours after trees fell on the roads.

Power supply was disrupted after branches of trees fell on electric lines.

Forty-six houses, including 28 in Mananthavady, 7 in Sulthan Bathery, and 11 in Vythiri were damaged.

The loss incurred is Rs.5.91 lakh.
