Rahul Gandhi visits Idukki

All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Rahul Gandhi made a detour to Idukki on Wednesday after his visit to Wayanad was cancelled following bad weather.

Mr. Gandhi, who arrived by a helicopter at the Model Residential School ground around noon, was received by District Collector K. Jeevanbabu and District Police Chief K.B. Venugopal.

Mr. Gandhi visited the relief camp at the forest dormitary at Painavu and interacted with the residents there.

In Cheruthoni

He then visited the Cheruthoni town, which suffered huge damage after the Cheruthoni dam of the Idukki reservoir was opened. He examined the damage near to the Periyar downstream before moving to the Idukki dam.

Mr. Gandhi was accompanied by Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala, K.C. Venugopal, MP, Roshy Augustine, MLA, and district panchayat president Kochuthresya Paulose. He returned to the Nedumbassery airport at 2 p.m.
