Preparations for the local body elections to be held on November 5 are in full swing in the district.
According to District Collector A. Koushikan, 3,298 polling stations will be set up for the coming local polls. Elections will be conducted to 86 panchayats, 16 block panchayats, seven municipalities, district panchayat and city corporation in the district. There are 29 divisions in the district panchayat and 55 divisions in the corporation.
In all 14,000 employees will be deployed for election duty. There are 2,098 wards in the district. Those who vote in panchayat areas have to cast three votes. There will be three EVMs and a control unit in each booth, he said.
In all there are 24,21,048 voters in the district. Among them 11,49,467 are women and 12,71,568 are men.
Meanwhile, polling officials will be deployed in various polling stations through e-drop system. The system has been developed by the Thrissur-based National Informatics Centre (NAC). The system has made the deployment of employees very easy, according to the District Collector.
No sensitive booths
No sensitive booths have been identified in the district, according to the District Collector. However, sufficient security arrangements will be made in all booths. There will be 24 counting centres. The counting will be held on November 7.
The Election Commission has urged political parties and candidates to go for eco-friendly campaign materials instead of flex broads. Caste and religion should not be used as a campaign tool. The candidates are requested to not exceed the campaign expenditure allotted to them.
