The Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation (Supplyco) has begun online registration and paddy procurement during the ‘Nanja’ (first crop) season in Wayanad district.

“As the Union government has extended the paddy procurement season, the farmers can register at www.supplycopaddy.in till March 31 ,2019,” Rajani Muralidharan, paddy marketing officer, Supplyco regional office, Kozhikode, said.

1,279 hectares

Officials expect to procure 5,000 tonnes of paddy during the Nanja season from the district. Ms. Muralidharan said the procurement was hassle-free.

Supplyco had procured 4,067 tonnes of paddy cultivated on 1,279 hectares of land from 2,141 farmers in the district last season.

As many as 134 farmers registered online to sell the produce cultivated on 95 hectares of land so far, she said. The online registration for ‘Punja’ (second crop) season would start on February 1, 2019, and procurement would begin from April 1, Ms. Muralidharan said.

The procurement price offered this season is ₹25.30. This includes the minimum support price of ₹17.50 and the State incentive bonus of ₹7.80. Farmers will get the procurement price from banks on production of the paddy receipt sheet (PRS) issued by the millers who procured the paddy. If the farmers have accounts with State Bank of India, Canara Bank, Federal Bank, Punjab National Bank, Bank of India, Vijaya Bank, South Indian Bank, Wayanad District Cooperative Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, and Kerala Grameen Bank, the farmers would get the procurement price in a time-bound manner after they produce their PRS, she said.
