A meeting of the National Highway 766 Transport Protection Action Committee on Thursday decided to intensify the agitations raising a slew of demands, including revoking of traffic ban on Kozhikode-Kollegal National Highway 766 passing through the Bandipur Tiger Reserve in Karnataka.

An indefinite hunger strike launched by a group of youths belonging to various political outfits in protest against the nine-hour night traffic ban at Sulthan Bathery entered the ninth day on Thursday.

The meeting decided to urge Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to hold a meeting and discuss the issue with his Karnataka counterpart B.S. Yeddyurappa at the earliest.

As many as five youths representing various youth movements, including the Youth Congress, DYFI, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, Muslim Youth League and youth wing of Kerala Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithi have been participating in the hunger strike.

Rahul Gandhi, MP, will visit the agitators at 9 a.m. on Friday. Mr. Gandhi would join the youths to express solidarity with them. Forest Minister K. Raju would also visit them at 3 p.m. on Friday, Mr. Suresh said.
