K.C. Venugopal, MP, on Saturday travelled with commuters of the Thiruvananthapuram-bound Intercity Express to understand their problems.

Mr. Venugopal, who boarded the train at Alappuzha, interacted with passengers and listened to their complaints, before alighting at Karunagappally.

The MP said he had decided to travel on the train to understand the problems of people who make the journey from Alappuzha and Kottayam to Thiruvananthapuram daily. Mr. Venugopal said he had received a number of complaints regarding late running, unscientific crossing system, time-table, among other issues. Office-goers complained that they could not reach their office in time due to late running of trains. Mr. Venugopal said all the issues and demands of the commuters would be raised at a meeting of Southern Railway general managers and other officials in Thiruvananthapuram on September 26. He would also approach the Ministry of Railways if needed, he said.
