The Social Forestry Department and the Indian Society of Authors organised a meeting on Saturday to discuss conservation and expansion of Mangalavanam here.

Asokan Machingal, Assistant Conservator of Forests, presented the draft proposals. K. Sukumaran, former judge of the Kerala High Court, presided.

The meeting observed that the transfer of land by the Railways for the expansion of Mangalavanam was not necessary. A Memorandum of Understanding will be sufficient to permit cultivation in the contiguous grounds. Students in colleges and schools will be involved in the initiative. Members of the High Court Advocates Associations, Central and State institutions will be encouraged to come up with proposals on conservation of Mangalavanam.

A pamphlet on the forest land will also be brought out as part of the project.
