Hadiya, who has convered to Islam and married Shefin Jahan, on Saturday denied that the marriage was held under duress.

“Nobody forced me to embrace Islam. Shefin Jahan is my husband and I want to live with him. I am a Muslim and I want justice”, Ms. Hadiya, who was Akhila earlier, told mediapersons at the Kochi International Airport despite the police barring her from from interacting with reporters.

The 24-year-old paramedical student, accompanied by her parents and five police officers, was on her way to New Delhi to appear before a Supreme Court Bench, which is slated to hear the case involving her on November 27.

Earlier in the day, she was brought to the airport amidst heavy police security.
