Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan handed over the key of the house, constructed for the family of Abhimanyu, to the slain student’s parents at Vattavada on Monday.

It was a moving moment for Abhimanyu’s parents as it was their dream to have a house of their own. The family was living in a single room house and the new house was constructed nearly half a kilometre away from their original house.

10-cent plot

Mr. Vijayan gave the key to Abhimanyu’s parents at a public function. The house was constructed in a 10-cent plot purchased using the fund raised through public donations.

Mr. Vijayan also inaugurated the Abhimanyu memorial library which was set up with public participation and has a collection of nearly one lakh books.

Vattavada is a village close to Munnar and is one of the backward grama panchayats with a low literacy rate.
