Kathakali maestro Madavoor Vasudevan Nair collapsed on stage and died while performing at Agasthyacodu Mahadeva Temple, Anchal on Tuesday night. He was 89. Though he was rushed to a nearby hospital, he was soon declared dead by doctors. He is survived by wife Savithri Amma, son Madhu and daughters Mini and Ganga.

A recipient of several awards, including Padma Bhushan, he was the follower of the Kaplingattu School, the particular style of south Kerala.

Madvoor had also worked as a faculty in the Thekkan Kalari (Southern school of Kathakali) of Kerala Kalamandalam and was the principal of Kalabharathi performing art institute.
