The State has 28,885 homeless tribal families and the government will provide houses to all of them, Minister for Tribal Welfare P.K. Jayalakshmi has said.

She said 21,000 houses would be built for the homeless tribal families in two years.

The departments of Tribal Welfare, Local Administration, and the Rural Development would pool funds required for the project, she said.

Autorickshaws

She said the Tribal Welfare Department has already distributed autorickshaws to 500 tribespeople as part of a self-employment scheme.

Ms. Jayalakshmi said the department would open medical and engineering examination coaching centres for tribal children at all district headquarters.

Raju Abraham, MLA; P. Mohanraj, District Congress Committee president; Mariyamma Cherian, district panchayat member, and O.A. Rasheed, District Tribal Development Officer, also accompanied the Minister.
