Independent legislator P.C. George, who teamed with the Bharatiya Janatha Party (BJP), and BJP legislator O. Rajagopal turned up in the Assembly on Wednesday in black attire typical of Ayyappa devotees to register their protest against the government’s actions in Sabarimala.
Before the days’ proceedings began, Mr. George was seen moving around the Opposition benches with the legislators enquiring about the black attire.
Noisy scenes
The black garb was used by the two legislators when the House witnessed noisy scenes and disruption over the adjournment motion moved by Congress legislator V.S. Sivakumar demanding withdrawal of prohibitory order and curbs in Sabarimala. Of the 30 questions listed, six were related to the recent incidents in the hill shrine over entry of woman of all ages. Later, Mr. George and Mr. Rajagopal was seen sitting together engaged in discussions.
Indian Union Muslim League leader and legislator from Azhikode K.M. Shaji, who was allowed to attend the Assembly proceedings by Supreme Court on Tuesday although the Kerala High Court had debarred him for six years on an election petition filed by rival candidat N.V. Nikesh, was greeted into the House by thumping of desks by the United Democratic Front legislators.
Mr. Shaji, who walked into the House after the proceedings for the day began, had to face jibe of the LDF legislators.
Minister for Water Resources K. Krishnankutty was also seen going around and meeting Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala and UDF leaders before the House began. The UDF had boycotted the swearing in function on Tuesday.
