The government will ensure free ration for all those displaced by floods in the district.

Minister for Local Administration K.T. Jaleel said here on Saturday that even those taking shelter in their relatives’ houses would be given free ration. Those evacuated to relief camps will also get free ration.

Speaking after visiting the flood-affected areas in the district, Mr. Jaleel said special camps would be organised from September 1 to 10 for reissuing documents to those who had lost them.

Children who lost their textbooks will be given fresh books. Vehicles will be arranged to carry schoolchildren from relief camps if needed, he said. Mr. Jaleel added that senior officials would be entrusted with coordination of relief work in all constituencies.

After reaching the Chalakkuthu relief camp near Nilambur, Mr. Jaleel visited Poochappara and the other affected areas along with P.V. Abdul Wahab, MP; P.V. Anvar, MLA; District Collector Amit Meena, and District Police Chief Prateesh Kumar.

He directed officials to prepare separate lists of damage for houses, government institutions, and farmland. A special order has been issued empowering local bodies to spend from their plan funds for relief work.

He said the government would consider a special package to reconstruct the Chettiyampara colony which was destroyed in landslip. Expert teams from the Mining and Geology Department will conduct studies in areas that are vulnerable to landslips.

Mr. Jaleel later reviewed the relief work at a meeting at the PWD rest house at Nilambur. MLAs P.V. Anvar, P.K. Basheer, and A.P. Anil Kumar; Assistant Collector Vikalp Bharadwaj and District Medical Officer K. Sakeena attended.
