The North bus stand in Thrissur city, which is used by thousands of people every day, is all set to get modern facilities.

The reconstruction of road has been done with ₹5.5 crore CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) fund of the South Indian Bank. The condition of the bus stand was pathetic with no proper basic facilities.

The new facilities include roofing, modern track, parking area and basic amenities including eateries, comfort station, kiosks and feeding centre.

The bank will undertake the construction. Maintenance will be reviewed by a committee with members from the bank and the city corporation. There will be two ATMs of the South Indian Bank.

There will be a main entrance to the bus stand. Four buses can park in the track at a time. There will be shelters for the buses and passengers. The free spaces will be beautified by the bank itself.

Though the efforts to renovate the bus stand were started last year, it got delayed. On an average 800 buses take services from the north stand a day. Buses to various routes such as Mulangunnathukavu Medical college, Ottappalam, Shoranur, Thiruvilwamala, Ramavarmapuram, Amballur and Mannuthy operate services form the bus stand. The work is expected to be completed in an year.

The city corporation has the responsibility of demolishing the old structure. It is progressing fast.

Except the hotels, the other structures have been removed already.

The bus stand will be shifted to the ground near the aquatic complex on a temporary basis till the work is completed.
