Shortage of drivers has begun to cripple KSRTC services from Palakkad district. As many as 35 services from different depots in the district were cancelled on Wednesday because of staff shortage. As many as 126 temporary drivers were recently removed from service following a court order. While 14 services were cancelled at Palakkad depot, four each were cancelled at Vadakkancheri and Mannarkkad depots, and five were cancelled at Chittur depot.

Most trips cancelled were on Coimbatore, Thrissur and Kozhikode routes. As it was a holiday on Wednesday, the cancellation of services did not affect passengers much.

Drivers recalled

KSRTC officials said they were managing the situation by recalling the drivers who had gone on vacation. The authorities are awaiting a court order before going ahead with new appointment plans. When 63 temporary drivers were removed at Palakkad, 27 were shown the door at Mannarkkad, 21 at Vadakkanchery and 15 at Chittur.
