The district panchayat has donated buses to three higher secondary schools here on Tuesday.

District panchayat president Suhara Mampad handed over the keys and documents of the buses to the officials of KMGVHS, Tavanur; GGVHS, BP Angadi; and GHSS, Vettathur; at a function held on the Regional Transport Office premises here.

The district panchayat has spent Rs.38 lakh for the buses to address the travel woes of students in the district.

More schools to benefit

The utility of the buses would be reviewed and other schools in the district would be considered for a similar grant in the second phase, Ms. Suhara said.

District panchayat councillors Umer Arakkal, K.P. Jalseemia, T. Vanaja, Salim Kuruvambalam, P. Saithalavi, and E. Pathummakutty attended the function.
