: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said the Home Department was responsible for the decision to withdraw the case against the accused in the attempt on the life of former Chief Secretary C.P. Nair.

Final decision by court

Talking to mediapersons who met him here on Sunday, Mr. Chandy said the final decision on the issue would be taken by the court.

Activists of the Congress and the CPI(M) were among the accused in the case, he said and added that many of them had passed away. Many others were suffering from old-age problems. It was against this background that a plea for withdrawing the case had come before the Home Department, he said.

The decision was taken after vetting by the Home Department, the Chief Minister said, and added that the government does not interfere in issues that were to be decided by the court.
