Several steps to improve infrastructure, quality of learning in public schools

More than 10,000 children joined Class I in public educational institutions in the district the new academic year that began on Thursday.

The district-level Pravesanotsavam to welcome the newcomers to schools was held at Government HSS, Kidangara. It was inaugurated by district panchayat president G. Venugopal. Similar programmes were held in schools across the district.

Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac inaugurated the Pravesanotsavam at VVSD UP School, Pathirappally.

The Minister distributed LED bulbs made by the students of the school. The work experience club of the school, which was launched a month ago, has produced 300 LED bulbs till date. The unit consists of 20 students. Each student receives ₹5 for making a bulb.

Officials said around 23,000 students had newly been enrolled in various classes in public schools in the district so far this year.

Several measures have been taken to improve the infrastructure and quality of learning in public schools in the district.

Hi-tech and digital classrooms, science labs, mathematics labs, libraries, ideal labs and science parks are some of the facilities already set up in schools.

“We have already set up 2,736 hi-tech classrooms in high schools and higher secondary schools in Alappuzha. By the second week of July, hi-tech labs will be set up in all primary schools in the district,” said an official.

Constructive changes

Staff Reporter writes from Kottayam: Civil Supplies Minister P. Thilothaman inaugurated the district-level Pravesanotsavam at the Panamattam government higher secondary school here on Thursday.

Mr. Thilothaman said the government was committed to bringing in constructive changes in the State’s education sector. He urged teachers to ensure their maximum support to the government’s initiatives in the sector.

District Collector P.K. Sudheer Babu was the chief guest.

Felicitated

Students who had passed SSLC and Plus Two examinations in flying colours from the school were felicitated.

Songs, colourful gifts and sweets welcomed tiny tots to schools across the district.

As per estimates, over 13,000 new students have enrolled in Classes I to X in the public schools in the district so far this year. It comprises around 9,000 students who enrolled in Class 1.

Student-friendly

A Correspondent writes from IDUKKI: Electricity Minister M.M. Mani inaugurated the Pravesanotsavam at Government Higher Secondary School, Rajakkad, on Thursday.

He said primary education sector was made student-friendly with changes in the curriculum and classrooms.

The education system in the State was strengthened to make the students on par with international standards. As many as 174 new students took admission to the school and they were given school bags and umbrellas. Those who scored good marks in Plus Two examinations were accorded a reception at the function.
