CM opens mini-hydel power project

: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy dedicated the district’s first mini-hydel power project at Adyanpara to the people on Thursday. He said the project had greater relevance today in view of the difficulties in getting permission of the Union government for hydel power schemes.

He also inaugurated a hydel tourism scheme of the Tourism Department.

Minister for Electricity Aryadan Mohammed announced a cash award of Rs.10,000 and good service entry for the staff of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) for completing the project a month ahead of the deadline.

The project will generate 3.5 MW power, contributing 9.01 million unit electricity to the State power grid a year. The project was completed in two years at Rs. 23.936 crore.

M.I. Shanavas, MP; P.V. Abdul Wahab, MP; KSEB director B. Babu Prasad; chairman M. Sivasankar; and District Collector T. Bhaskaran; spoke.

The Chief Minister also inaugurated a new Government Arts and Science College at Vilayil Parappur on Thursday. He said the government was committed to strengthening the State’s public education. He said the UDF government had opened 22 new arts and science colleges in government sector in the State.

Minister for Education P.K. Abdu Rabb presided. Minister for Industries and IT P.K. Kunhalikutty inaugurated the temporary building of the college. E. Ahamed, MP, laid the foundation for a permanent building being constructed at a cost of Rs. 8 crore. He sanctioned Rs. 1 crore from his MP fund.

E.T. Mohammed Basheer, MP; K. Mohammedunni Haji, MLA; P. Ubaidulla, MLA; district panchayat president Suhara Mampad; and Calicut University Vice Chancellor M.K. Abdul Khader; spoke.
