The State unit of the BJP is reported to have resolved to lay emphasis on four segments in the Lok Sabha elections where the Sangh Parivar hopes to register an impressive performance on the strength of the Sabarimala agitation and its organisational acumen.

The BJP will field candidates in all 20 segments.

The decision to concentrate on Thiruvananthapuram, Attingal, Pathanamthitta and Thrissur is reported to have been made at the instance of the RSS and its four prominent leaders, Prasad Babu, S. Sudarsan, M. Radhakrishnan and A. Vinod will be coordinating the electioneering. The decision was made after an RSS conclave, sources said.

With a view to reap maximum mileage of the Sabarimala agitation, a proposal to field candidates in the name of the Sabarimala Karma Samithy (SKS) was mooted, but was reportedly turned down by the BJP national leadership. An early experiment of fielding a Hindu Munnani candidate may not work out in the current context, it was felt.

The Sangh Parivar is looking forward to win the support of the Nair Service Society and also the Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam that have registered their resentment at the entry of women of childbearing age to Sabarimala.

But the chinks in the organisational armoury of the BJP and the lapses it committed in coordinating the Sabarimala agitation as desired by the RSS continue to vex the Sangh leadership.

A decision to lay a siege to the Secretariat and stepping up a campaign in solidarity with the leaders who have gone on a fast in front of the Secretariat had to be relinquished due to alleged lack of coordination.

The BJP would have to wind up its fast either before or after January 22 when the Supreme Court takes up a batch of review petitions on Sabarimala, without registering any major gain.

Still, the party hoped to make amends with the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party president Amit Shah in due course, sources said.
