Another initiative to popularise yoga

Initiative in Kannur reportedly supported by the CPI(M)

June 21, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - KANNUR:

A yoga training dubbed as a pro-Communist Party of India (Marxist) initiative will be launched at Peravur here on International Yoga Day on June 21, though its organisers deny that the yoga centre being started here has any links with any political party.

The functionaries of the Indian Martial Arts Academy and Yoga Study Centre (IMAAYSC) announced that they were opening a training centre at Peravur at 3 p.m. on Sunday to coincide with the first International Yoga Day.

The district-level inauguration would be followed by extension of yoga training activities to other parts of the district, E. Rajiv and K.P. Krishnadas of the centre said at a press meet here on Saturday.

The yoga training initiative of the IMAAYSC is reportedly a venture sponsored by the CPI(M).

Taking it to people

Mr. Rajiv and Mr. Krishnadas said that the objective of the initiative was to have the ancient Indian practice liberated from the grips of the ‘upper class’ and to popularise it.
