On June 24, Lionel Messi, one of the greatest ever to grace the football field turned 32. A hardcore Messi fan in Alappuzha has made it a memorable day by getting married on the day, that too in a venue replicating a football ground.
For family and friends who turned up for the marriage of Shibu Cletus and Jeena Sebastian at Thumpoly, it was a different experience altogether. Flex boards and big cut-outs of football greats such as Pele, Diego Maradona, Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Neymar, among other players, adorned the stage.
A football player himself and a diehard fan of the Argentina team, Shibu said that he set up the venue for the marriage with the help of his friends to create an atmosphere of a football stadium. Like in the stadium, galleries were arranged for the invitees. He also printed the wedding card in the form of a football field.
Year-long wait
Shibu said that he had waited almost a year after his engagement function to get married on Messi’s birthday.
“After the engagement on July 15, 2018, the parents of Jeena demanded that the wedding be conducted soon. But, I informed them about my wish and they all agreed,” he said.
Shibu has been working in an event management company in the United Arab Emirates for the past four years.
