A festival of fruits at Thiruvalla

Plantation Corporation of Kerala Ltd. (PCKL), Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA), and Mar Athanasios College for Advanced Studies, Thiruvalla, will organise a three-day jackfruit-mango-papaya festival at YMCA Hall in Thiruvalla from June 9 to 11.

Joy John, YMCA office secretary, said display and sale of as many as 14 rare mango varieties, different types of papaya produced at PCKL farms, and almost all native varieties of jackfruit would be the major attraction of the fruit festival.

The stalls opened by Kudumbasree units in Pathanamthitta would provide different dishes made of jackfruit. The State Horticulture Mission, the Tuber Crops Research Institute, and the Krishi Vigyan Kendra would also open stalls, Mr. John said. The PCKL would sell organic pesticides and manure in its stalls.

Revenue Minister Adoor Prakash would inaugurate the festival at 4 p.m. on June 9.

P.S. Zacharia, YMCA president, would preside over the function. PCKL chairman Varghese George would deliver the keynote address.
