Squad formed to prevent cruelty to animals

September 08, 2010 08:25 pm | Updated 08:25 pm IST - PALAKKAD:

The Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) has formed a squad to prevent cruelty to animals. It will comprise officers from the police, regional transport office and vigilance.

Rules are violated while transporting cattle. Only six animals should be carried in a lorry, SPCA honorary secretary P.K. Narayanan said.

A check by SPCA on Wednesday found lorries transporting 27 and 25 animals each in the district. The squad will take stern action against such violations, he said.
