The repair work on Generators I and III of 55 MW each at the Moozhiyar Power House of Sabarigiri hydro-electric project has been completed and the recommissioning of the two machines is expected to be carried out in the next two weeks.

Talking to The Hindu, Mr Mohammedali Rawther, KSEB Deputy Chief Engineer at Moozhiyar, said the Erode-based Coral Rewinding Limited has completed the assembling work of Generator-III and VA Tech of Austria has started the pre-commissioning work at the power house.

Similarly, the VA Tech has completed the repair, modernisation and upgrading of Generator-I and its pre-commissioning tests too have been commenced, he said. He said KSEB is planning to conduct the mechanical spinning of the machine on October 12 and trial run on October 20.

Mr Rawther said KSEB has launched hectic efforts to re-commission both the machine by October 20 itself so as to add a total of 110 MW capacity to the State’s power grid, making the total power generation at Moozhiyar 280 MW.

He said steps have also been taken to replace Generator-IV that was fully damaged in the explosion occurred on May 16, 2008. KSEB will sign an agreement with the Chinese company, Poission De Leau, for rebuilding the generator this week itself.

Water level in reservoir

Mr Rawther said the water level in the twin reservoirs of Kaki and Anathode of the Sabarigiri project has been recorded at 981.05 metres against its full reservoir level (FRL) of 981.46 metres.

However, he said no inflow has been recorded in the reservoir during the past five days as the catchment areas have not received any rain fall during the period.
