Jabulani returns to its roots

India may not have qualified for the ongoing football World Cup in South Africa. However, there is a definite Kerala flavour in the mega event.

The official 2010 World Cup ball, Jabulani, has its roots here. The latex bladders of the ball, which gives its shape, speed and bounce are made by the Delhi-based Enkay (India) Rubber Company Private Limited. The latex, required for the production, is procured from the Plantation Corporation of Kerala.

In a function arranged to welcome the Jabulani balls, cine-actor Babu Antony handed the ball over to T.J. Angelose, Corporation Chairman.

Mr. Antony congratulated the Corporation on achieving the distinction of being part of producing the World Cup balls.

Commenting on the balls, Mr. Angelose said, “This is a proud moment for the Corporation. The balls used for the World Cup in South Africa are the result of the hard work of workers.”

Corporation Managing Director N.K. Manoj, Board Directors Vijayan Kunissery, K.V. Babu, P.N. Prabhakaran and C.K. Unnikrishnan attended the function. The Corporation premises was also thronged by scores of school students.
