The Special Investigation Team probing the murder of businessman Paul Muthoot George, on Tuesday, began evidence collection from the spots visited by Paul along with the accused Om Prakash and Rajesh, prior to his murder on August 22.
The team, which had taken Prakash and Rajesh to Ernakulam after an interrogation session at the Police Club here on Monday following the court releasing the duo to police custody, began Tuesday’s proceedings
from Ernakulam. According to sources, Prakash and Rajesh were then brought to Mararikulam, where the duo is said to have spent some time with Paul and Manu, the sole eyewitness in the case, on August 21, the
night before the murder.
The accused were first taken to the site of the under-construction resort of Paul. The person who had prepared food for them following orders from Paul was summoned and details were taken from him before
Prakash and Rajesh were taken to the Mararikulam Beach nearby, where they had spent nearly two hours with Paul on that night.
The duo was then taken to Chavara in Kollam district, where they had abandoned the Ford Endeavour Paul was travelling in just before the murder. Though there were reports that they would be taken to the crime scene at Jyothi Junction near Ponga on the Alappuzha-Changanassery Road, police sources said the crime scene evidence collection would be held at a later date, probably along with a recreation of the entire episode. However, this was yet to be finalised.
Meanwhile, hearing on the bail application submitted by 12th accused in the case, Kaari Satheesh, in the Alappuzha Sessions Court was posted for Wednesday. Hearing on the anticipatory bail petition filed
at the same court by blacksmith Prasad will be on Thursday, which is also when the Ramankary Judicial First Class Magistrate will pronounce judgement on the bail plea by Prakash and Rajesh.
