The Kerala High Court today issued a notice to Chairman of State-owned Plantation Corporation of Kerala (PCK) T J Anjelose on a PIL seeking setting up of a tribunal to grant compensation to the people who have suffered ill-effects of pesticide Endosulfan.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice J Chelemeswar and Justice P R Ramachandra Menon was hearing a petition of T Asif Ali, seeking to implead Anjelose.
PCK Managing Director N K Manoj had filed an affidavit in court stating they had not performed any illegal activity or violated rules on use of Endosulfan and that the Corporation was not liable to pay any compensation to Endosulfan victims.
The government later withdrew the affidavit and removed Mr. Manoj as the affidavit which went against the position of the state on the use of the pesticide in parts of Kasaragode district.
Following aerial spraying of Endosulfan in parts of Kasaragode district several years ago, many villages had suffered health problems, the petition had contended.
