Persons accused of copyright violation in more than two cases would be arrested under the Goondas Act, state anti-piracy cell chief R. Sreelakha IG said on Sunday.

The anti-piracy cell had conducted 2,500 raids against the sale and exhibition of fake CDs in a month-long campaign that began on January 4, Ms. Sreelekha told reporters here.

Around 18,000 fake CDs were seized in the raids and 160 cases registered in this connection. A total of 149 persons selling fake CDs and DVDs in bus stands, railway stations, streets and beaches were arrested during the drive, she said.

A group of persons in Aluva engaged in copying CDs for sale was arrested recently. Police could also check the webcast of two Malayalam films which were circulated on the net, she said.

Ms. Sreelekha said people could inform the cell on fake CDs through the high-tech cell or police control room. Police were also on the alert to prevent unauthorised telecast of films by private cable operators, she said.
