As many as 3,09,065 of the 3,69,021 students who sat for the Plus Two higher secondary examinations this year have become eligible for higher studies. The pass percentage this year is 83.75, slightly up from 83.37 last year. The results of the higher secondary and vocational higher secondary examination were declared by Minister for Education C. Ravindranath here on Thursday.
As many as 180 students secured full marks – 1,200/1,200, and 14,735 got A+ in all subjects. Girls continued their good showing this year too. Of the 1,97,633 girls who appeared for the examination, 1,78,492 (90.31%) became eligible for higher studies. Of the 1,73,106 boys who took the examination, 1,31,897 (76.19%) passed. Last year, the percentage for girls and boys was 89.9 and 75.87, respectively.
In the Science stream, 1,56,087 students (85.91%) passed, in Humanities 56,358 (76.21%), and in Commerce 96,620 (85.22%). The aided school sector topped with a pass percentage of 86.14. In government schools, it was 82.12, and in unaided schools 76.47%.
Among districts, Kannur posted the highest pass percentage of 86.75%, while Pathanamthitta had the least, 77.16. Malappuram from where the maximum number of students appeared for the exam also had the distinction of being the district with maximum number of students with A+ grade in all subjects – 1,935. Among schools, maximum number of students – 834 - appeared for the examinations from St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Pattom. The pass percentage here was 94.6.
There were 79 schools which had 100% results and 34 schools had a pass percentage lesser than 30.
Technical School
In the Technical School category, 1,246 (76.77%) of 1,631 students passed. At the Kalamandalam art school, 78 (82.11%) of the 95 students who took the exam passed.
As many as 25,503 students (37.51%) of the 67,991 who appeared for the examinations through SCOLE-Kerala qualified for higher studies. The SAY/Improvement examinations will be from June 5 to 12. The last date to apply is May 16. The last date to apply for revaluation, scrutiny, and photocopy of answer scripts is May 15. The results of Plus One will be declared by month end, and Plus Two classes will begin on June 1, the Minister said.
While the number of students who had got A+ in all subjects had increased, some schools had not fared well. As a pilot project, the Directorate of Higher Secondary Education would provide special support to one school in each district for improvement of their education standards, the Minister said.
VHSE section
In the VHSE section, of the 29,174 students who appeared for the examinations, as many as 23,434 students (80.32%) passed Parts 1,2, and 3 and became eligible for higher studies. The pass percentage was down from last year’s 81.5.
As many 26,327 (90.24%) cleared Part 1 and 2 and became eligible for receiving trade and skill certificates. This was up from 86.79% last year.
Sixty-nine students got A+ in all subjects. Thrissur posted the highest pass percentage among all districts – 84.38, while Pathanamthitta had the least – 69.93.
Of the 13,109 girls who appeared for the examinations, 87.51% became eligible for higher studies and 95.16% for trade certificate. Among 16,065 boys who sat for the exam, 74.46% became eligible for higher education and 86.23% for trade certificate.
Forty government schools and seven aided schools recorded 100% results in Part 1 and 2. Eighteen government schools and one aided school had 100% results in Part 1, 2, and 3.
