3 CPI(M) workers stabbed near Panur

Three Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] workers were stabbed at Chendayad near Panur here in the early hours of Sunday by alleged Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers.

The police identified the victims as Ashwanth (24), Rajilesh (28), and Atul (24). They were attacked while they were returning home after the New Year celebrations, the police said. The attack was carried out by a six-member group.

The attackers allegedly covered their faces during the attack, the police said. The victims suffered injuries in their hands and legs. Rajilesh suffered serious injuries in the attack, the police said. All of them were rushed to the Government Hospital at Thalassery and from there to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 3 a.m. The clash apparently broke out over dispute over writing New Year messages on the road. The CPI(M alleged that BJP-RSS workers were behind the attack.
