A 23-year-old youth with mental disabilities from Mysuru district, who was treated at the Udupi District Government Hospital, was reunited with his father here on Wednesday.
Speaking to presspersons here on Wednesday, Vishu Shetty, social worker, said that Ravi was found unconscious near a petrol bunk on National Highway 66 here on March 28.
He called the 108 ambulance and got him admitted to the District Government Hospital here.
Mr. Ravi was unable to speak at the time.
He could consume only liquids for the first 10 days and later started consuming solid food.
After a few days, when he started talking a few words, he could not recall his name and address. He escaped from the hospital three times.
The first time, he was traced by social worker Nityananda Volakadu, and the next two times, Mr. Shetty traced him and brought him back to the hospital.
Pradeep, a person who took care of patients for money, voluntarily came forward to take care of Mr. Ravi, free of cost.
Finally, after 63 days of treatment, Mr. Ravi regained his memory and gave the hospital his father’s phone number.
His father Ninga Shetty (63), a resident of Saligrama village in K.R. Nagar taluk of Mysuru district, came to get his son. With tears in his eyes, Mr. Ningappa said he was indebted to Mr. Shetty and Mr. Pradeep for helping his son. “I will take him back and get him admitted to a hospital in Mysuru,” he said.
