Training his guns at Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, Bharatiya Janata Party State president and leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly B.S. Yeddyurappa on Tuesday accused his government of “hoodwinking” farmers and demanded he resign immediately.

“The Chief Minister has lost the moral right to continue as his government has deceived farmers by failing to implement the pre-poll promises made to them,” Mr. Yeddyurappa alleged while participating in a discussion on drought in the Assembly.

He alleged that nationalised banks were yet to respond positively to the State’s request for farm loan waiver though the government had been promising farmers of the same.

Questioning Mr. Kumaraswamy’s claims that he was the only Chief Minister who is easily accessible for common people, the BJP leader alleged that he had actually chosen to stay in a hotel in Bengaluru, away from the common people and even legislators. He also claimed that the Chief Minister’s rent would come to ₹2 crore a year as he had taken two rooms in the hotel.

‘Withdraw govt. deposits’

Legislative Assembly Speaker K.R. Ramesh Kumar suggested that the State government withdraw all its deposits in commercial banks, if they refuse to adhere to the government’s decision to waive farm loans The Speaker said the government should explore such tough measures to ensure that banks came forward for an early implementation of farm loan waiver scheme.
