Woman dies, 20 sustain injuries as bus overturns

A 20-year-old woman was killed and at least 20 persons were injured when a mini-bus from Maddur in Mandya district overturned and fell into a roadside ditch on the Sathanur-Kanakapura main road in Ramanagaram district on Sunday.

The victim has been identified as Ranjitha Yogesh from Somanahalli in Maddur taluk.

According to the Kanakapura police, the accident occurred near Doddahalahalli in Uyyamballi hobli in Kanakapura taluk.

The mini bus was carrying 26 persons from Maddur to Sangam from Mekedatu. The mini bus overturned as the driver lost control, the police said.

The injured were initially taken to Kanaka Nursing Home in Kanakapura. Later, they were treated at the government hospital in Kanakapura before being shifted to the Victoria hospital and the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) in Bengaluru for further treatment, the police said.

However, the vehicle driver escaped from the spot, immediately after the accident. The police have registered a case.
