The loss due to the recent floods in Yadgir district has been estimated at ₹ 190 crore. However, as per norms fixed by NDRF, it will only get ₹ 27 crore. Therefore, a detailed report has been sent to the State government, Deputy Commissioner M. Kurma Rao has said.

He was addressing a press conference here on Thursday, ahead of Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa’s scheduled tour of the district to inspect flood-affected villages and chair a review meeting in Yadgir on Saturday.

Mr. Kurma Rao said that in the month of August, the district had suffered a huge loss owing to floods. Standing crops on several thousand acres of agriculture land were destroyed and houses were damaged. Roads and bridges were also damaged. Electricity poles were uprooted. And, the total loss has been estimated at Rs 190 crore, he explained. “We will again brief the Chief Minister during the meeting here,” he added.

The Deputy Commissioner said that 442 houses identified as damaged after flooding were given compensation of ₹ 10,000 each under the initial grant of ₹ 5 crore that was released immediately after the floods. Another ₹ 10 crore was also released for the Public Work Department to repair or reconstruct damaged roads. Hence, the department has been asked to complete the works with the amount that was released, he added.

Meanwhile, ₹ 25 crore was released by the government towards compensation of crop loss during the rabi season of 2018-19 as standing crops on 29,098 hectares were damaged owing to drought, and data entry pertaining to farmers is on. The compensation amount will be distributed shortly, he said. Superintendent of Police Rishikesh Sonawane, who was present, said that adequate security will be deployed during the Chief Minister’s visit.

As many as five Deputy Superintendents of police, 14 Police Inspectors, 38 Sub Inspectors, 82 Assistant Sub Inspectors, 665 constables and 382 Home Guards will be on duty.

Apart from this, five platoons of the District Armed Reserve and three platoons of Karnataka State Reserve Police will also be deployed for security.

All necessary arrangements will be made for the public to park their vehicles when they come to submit applications to the Chief Minister at the district administration building, he said.
