Officials of Krishna Bhagya Jala Nigama Limited (KBJNL) have continued to release water from Basavasagar reservoir in Narayanapur in Hunsagi taluk of Yadgir district owing to heavy inflow from Alamatti dam to the reservoir following copious rainfall in the Krishna catchment area in Maharashtra.

According to official sources, at 5.30 p.m. on Monday, water was released into the Krishna at the rate of 1.62 lakh cusecs, while 1.72 lakh cusecs was the inflow from Alamatti dam. The present level stood at 491.10 m against the full reservoir level of 492.25 m.

The district administration issued alerts to river bank village residents suggesting that they do not venture into the river for fishing or other purposes including washing of animals.

The level downstream is close to full. If it increases, standing crops are expected to be damaged or washed away in the flowing water.

Revenue Department authorities have taken the initiative of alerting villagers with tom toms.
