HasGeek, a start-up that organises events for software developers in different domains, is hosting jsFoo on Saturday.
jsFoo is India's first conference on JavaScript and will feature a full day of discussions on writing full-size applications in the language.
The programme includes sessions on building applications, an advanced introduction to node.js, effective gaming techniques using HTML5 and understanding JavaScript engines of various Web browsers.
The event is being held on the Dharmaram College campus and will provide geeks a platform to interact with and learn from the smartest people from across the country.
JavaScript is increasingly growing to be the world's most important programming language, thanks to its availability on Web browsers across operating systems and devices, a release from HasGeek stated.
“Node.js is a framework that allows building server-side applications in JavaScript, without dependence on a browser,” it said.
Talk on public software
Bangalore International Centre hosted a talk on ‘Public software and public institutions' by Gurumurthy Kasinathan, Director Public Software Centre, IT for Change, a non-governmental organisation.
Mr. Kasinathan said the promise of the Internet came from it being a public network in which all had the same possibilities for creating, sharing and using information.
He pointed out that, by default, everybody used software, the “primary equipment” for the manufacture, storing and sharing of digital information. Such privatised ownership has huge implications on social justice and equity as any modification and customising can be done only by the producer, and its sharing is prohibited, he said.
Two new standards
The Standards Association of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, a globally recognised standards setting body, announced the introduction of two standards: IEEE 1701TM and IEEE 1702TM, to create a multi-source plug and play communications environment for implementation of diverse smart metering devices, for the first time in India.
