A student of a private nursing college, who attempted suicide by consuming sleeping pills on Monday, died on the way to a hospital in Bengaluru on Tuesday.

Her classmates have alleged that the refusal of the college management to allow her to reappear for examinations had prompted her end her life. Bhavyashree (20), from Bengaluru, was studying in H.D. Deve Gowda Cooperative Nursing School, run by the Sanjeevini Cooperative Organisation, in Hassan. Students of the college, on Tuesday, staged a protest in front of the college, blaming the management for her death.

Reason

According to them, the management did not accept her examination fee and said she would not be allowed to write the exam without clearing the hostel dues of Rs. 6,000. She was upset with the management’s stand, they said.

MAL’s assurance

H.S. Prakash, Hassan MLA, who is the chairman of the cooperative organisation, assured the students that he would inquire into the matter and take appropriate action. The Hassan city police have registered a case.
