The Mysore Road - Magadi Road stretch of Namma Metro may not have many footfalls currently till it is connected to the Majestic Station. However, this has not deterred street hawkers from taking over the pathway near one of the entrances of the Vijayanagar Metro station.

Though Metro officials say the hawkers don’t have the required licence, the vendors claim they have been doing business at that spot for many years. Commuters aren’t pleased either: they are finding it difficult to enter or exit the station.

To make matters worse, the entrance is for ever blocked by a long line of autorickshaws.

“It gets tough to walk out from this exit in the evenings when the vendors are present. They should be relocated,” said T. Arvind, a resident of Mysore road. Metro officials say they are aware of the issue and will take action soon. “We have spoken to the vendors and asked them to move away from the place. The hawkers have agreed to shift once the entire corridor is operational,” said U.A. Vasanth Rao, spokesperson, BMRCL. The east-west corridor, connecting Byappanahalli station to Mysore road station is ready and BMRCL is gearing up to apply for safety clearance before beginning operations.
