Barring the excellent achievement by individual students in the SSLC examination results announced on Tuesday, there is hardly anything to cheer about for the districts of the Bombay Karnataka region and the two districts of central Karnataka.
While the Chikkodi Educational District that had topped the State last year has slipped to second position with a pass percentage of 93.32 per cent making way for Udupi district, Gadag has slipped to its nadir in terms of performance in the SSLC examination to end up in the last position with only 66.74 per cent, from 13th position last year.
The statistics of the neighbouring Haveri district are disappointing. Haveri, which stood 6th in 2013-14 year has slid down to 21 this time with a pass percentage of 85.58 per cent.
Dharwad district, considered a ‘seat of education’, has slipped further in the SSLC result rankings from 15th to 25th position.
The district’s pass percentage has decreased to 84.54 per cent from 85.44 per cent last year.
The only solace for the education officials and teachers is that rural schools, most of them government, have fared better than their urban counterparts.
Bagalkot district, which ranked 10 in 2014, has stumbled down to 30th position this year.
Vijayapura has improved by one position to rank 31 this time. However, its pass percentage decreased to 75.2 per cent from 78.7 per cent it achieved last year.
Central Karnataka
Chitradurga and Davanagere of central Karnataka too did not register encouraging results. With a pass percentage of 85.75 per cent, Chitradurga has slipped one position to 19.
Davanagere has improved its pass percentage by 0.82 per cent to achieve 86.33 per cent, but has slipped to 16th position from 15 last year.
Uttara Kannada district, which has produced the State topper Vishwajit Prakash Hegde, has risen to 3rd position from seven last year.
Gadag ends up in the last position with just 66.74 p.c. students passing
Haveri, which was third last year, stands 21st this time with a pass percentage of 85.58 p.c.
