Chairperson of the Zilla Panchayat Standing Committee on Health and Education Sunanda Raviraj Koravi launched the six-day mass drug administration drive to arrest the spread of filariasis in Kalaburagi district by administering DEC and Albendezole tablets to children here on Monday.
More than 24.88 lakh eligible persons in the districtwould be provided the tablets during door-to-door visits of the health, the anganwadi and Asha health workers.
District Health and Family Welfare Officer Mohammad Zakir Ansari said that this year’s focus would be to achieve cent per cent compliance and ensuring that every single person, who is provided the drugs, consumes them.
The government had also decided to provide incentive to the workers, involved in the administration of drugs, if they achieved 80 per cent of the compliance during their visits.
Each health worker has been given the responsibility to cover 200 housesand those achieving 80 per cent compliance would be provided an incentive of Rs. 400.
Three districts, including Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, and Udupi, have been removed from the list of endemic districts this year for reporting less than 1 per cent of filariasis cases last year.
