The Forest Department successfully caught an elephant near Iguru in Sakleshpur taluk on Monday, bringing the total number of elephants caught (since November 2013) to seven.

According to sources in the department, sharpshooters noticed the animal, around 35 years of age, around noon on Monday and tranquilised it. When the animal fell unconscious, it was hauled off to the loading spot by tame elephants. The department, as per the clearance obtained from the Karnataka High Court and the Ministry of Environment and Forests, still has 18 elephants left to capture.
