Heavy rain lashed parts of Ballari district on Saturday evening. However, there were no reports of any casualties or destruction to property.

It rained heavily for over 90 minutes and continued drizzling later, inundating low-lying areas.

Heavy rains were also experienced in Hadagali taluk. The rainfall recorded was the highest 42.2 mm in the taluk, followed by Ballari with 38.4 mm, Sandur 18.4 mm, Kudligi 16.8 mm, Hagari Bommanahalli 7.0 mm and Hosapete 2.8 mm.

Meanwhile, owing to good rainfall in the catchment area, the inflow into the Tungabhadra has increased considerably. The dam, which used to get inflow at the rate of 4,000 to 5,000 cusecs earlier during the week, began recording over 23,000 cusecs on Saturday and over 26,000 cusecs on Sunday morning.

The level of the dam stood at 1,625.28 feet as against the full reservoir level of 1,633 feet. The dam has augmented around 73 tmcft of water.
